Make it easy: It maps your yard with a spinning laser instead of satellites, so there is nothing to mount and nothing to align. Set the schedule and it mows on its own, including under the trees where other robot mowers give up.
What we like
- LiDAR navigation works under dense tree cover and next to buildings, where RTK loses its fix
- No antenna to mount anywhere on your property
- All wheel drive at a price where most mowers are two wheel drive
- No subscription
What could be better
- Reviewers report a rough setup process and boundary violations on the Pro trims, so mapping needs supervision on the first few runs
- 0.25 acres of coverage for $1,800 is not generous compared to RTK rivals
- Dreame does not publish a slope rating for this trim, which usually means it is not a selling point
Best for
- • Wooded lots and yards hemmed in by buildings where satellite positioning fails
- • Owners who would rather not mount an RTK antenna on the roof or a post
- • Mid-size yards with complex shapes
Our verdict
The A3 is the mower to look at when RTK is not an option. LiDAR does not care about tree canopy or how much sky your lot can see, and that solves the single most common reason wire-free mowers fail in real yards. The catch is that Dreame's boundary handling has a mixed record: Reviewed found setup fiddly and boundary violations on the Pro models. Watch the first few runs rather than trusting it immediately. If your yard is open to the sky, an RTK mower at this price will cut more reliably.
