Make it easy: Pop in two AA batteries, mount it outside, and connect it to the Sync Module. Plug a USB drive into the Sync Module for free local clip storage. Battery lasts about two years.

What we like

  • Up to two-year battery life on two AA lithium batteries, the longest in any wireless security camera
  • Free local clip storage via USB drive in the Sync Module, no subscription required for basic use
  • 143-degree wide field of view (up from 110 on the previous generation)
  • Person detection included free, even without a cloud subscription

What could be better

  • Image quality is noticeably softer than rivals, with pixelation at distance and poor detail capture
  • Infrared night vision only (no color night vision at any tier)
  • Requires the Sync Module (included in bundles) as a separate device, which adds a cord and an outlet

Best for

Our verdict

The Blink Outdoor 4 is the best budget security camera you can buy. The two-year battery life is genuinely unmatched (most competitors last 3-6 months), and the free local storage through the Sync Module means you can skip the subscription entirely. Image quality is the tradeoff: it's fine for seeing who's at the door, but don't expect to read license plates across a driveway. For the price, it does its job well. Add more cameras at $35-40 each (add-on pricing) to cover multiple angles.
